What is Insight?
The Insight CBT Partnership is a new international company that was formed in 2010, to help deliver cutting edge CBT of Psychosis training and supporting service implementation that adheres to NICE and PORT guidelines.
Over the years there have been expert cognitive therapists that have proved that they can significantly help patients with schizophrenia using cognitive therapy. However, the Insight CBT Partnership of Caroline Geraghty, Jeremy Pelton and Professors Douglas Turkington and David Kingdon, wanted to help the great mass of people with these illnesses, not just those in the rarefied conditions of clinical trials. So we decided to develop a package of training and remote support that could be used to up skill psychiatric nurses, social workers and other members of the mental health team on brief, high yield techniques for psychosis.
Under study conditions we proved that our CBT programme enables CMHT staff to deliver significant benefits to those suffering from schizophrenia and other psychoses. The Insight CBT methodology showed a resultant significant reduction in the number of relapses, significant increase in the length of time between relapses and improvement in rehospitalisation, with length of stay being dramatically reduced with savings on bed days of £1M at 24 months We can now give access to our CBT techniques via a variety of training packages, 5 to 10 day brief training programs and 1 to 2 day master class seminars with keynote sessions from international experts.
We enhance our training and service implementation support with our web site, which has a vast array of useful material such as lecture notes, homework experiment sheets, patient information and case studies. Membership for the web site also allows access to chat rooms with our trainers in addition to global experts in CBT. This rich resource is intended to help health care professionals with their own cognitive therapy with patients with psychosis. Also to help train the teams of people that work in this area.
During our last year we have worked with and supported mental healthcare professionals across the globe from USA, Portugal, spain, China, Japan Norway, Italy and the UK. The feedback from our courses and seminars has been very positive which will see us returning to these countries to build on their new skills and service implementation.
